Serena Appel "I have led art groups with elders, adults, teens and children since 2003. I
have a long history of collaborating with others in order to create and show
artwork, music and spoken word, both in Portland and in Chicago, IL, my
hometown. I am a practicing fine artist, with a BFA from Columbia College
Chicago in 2005, and an MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University
in 2007. My areas of study include: Comparative spirituality/mythology,
symbolism, women's issues, GLBTQQ issues, multicultural issues; working with
MR/DD, brain-injured and chronically mentally ill adults; working with children
suffering from multiple disorders, and solution-focused crisis assessment and
brief therapy. My philosophy is to assist clients in discovering imagery through
art and craft making that will bring them personally meaningful medicine to help
heal and transform their lives."
Deanne Belinoff BA, MFA, has
facilitated the creative process for the past 25 years on the West Coast. www.DeanneBelinoff.com She is an experienced and successful visual artist with numerous grants including two NEA full
fellowships. "Since childhood, my
passion is sharing this joyous creative process with other people because it
just so much fun. I have worked to this
end in Universities, Colleges, museum classes and Creative Process Workshops
all of my life"
Jessica Breedlove was born
in Southern California and moved to the Willamette Valley at a young age. She
has always pursued art and was drawn to line and color from the beginning.
Jessica is a recent graduate from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
She has had work published in Prism, the Oregon State literary magazine; she
currently has an encaustic show up at Waldo Hall at Oregon State. She recently
moved to Portland and is now trying to navigate her way through the art world.
Lisa Brinkman has a BFA in painting
from PNCA, and a Masters in Art Therapy through Marylhurst University. An
exhibiting artist for over 30 years, Lisa currently has a private practice in
the NE Grant Park, Portland area. Utilizing a unique perspective of identifying
an individual’s archetypal patterns, Lisa offers counseling, art &
expressive therapies, and dream-work for those seeking personal growth and
generative change in their lives.
Amy Burgess "I started making jewelry 8 years ago and sell my work online, at Edgefield,
Bean and Tree and 100th Monkey's gift shop."
Joyce DeHaan, received a Masters of Art Therapy Counseling in 2006 from Marylhurst University's Art Therapy Counseling graduate program. Joyce is a members of the American Art Therapy Association. Joyce is currently working with elders and special needs adults at the Marie Smith Center in Portland, Oregon.
Margaret Foley is the assistant editor of Oregon
Home Magazine and the editor of its annual Green Living
issue. She is also one of the co-founders and co-editors of
the Portland-based litzine, Thereby Hangs a Tale.
Michelle Freedman is
a textile and apparel designer and has worked for Ralph Lauren, Nike, and
Columbia Sportswear. She is the author of two books, 'The Ravioli Kid,'
and 'How the West Was Worn.' She holds a BFA in design from Parsons School of
Design Freedman has been sewing since she was five years old and has continued to pursue her
craft to the point of having numb fingertips from poking them with needles so
many times. She holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design in
NY and worked for 15 years as an apparel designer for companies such as Ralph
Lauren and Nike, and had built costumes for theater and dance in NY and
Portland. Freedman has two books published and is working on her third,
Craft Fiction! The booklover's guide to DIY projects from the classics.
Diane Gilleland produces DIY Alert (www.diyalert.com), a website devoted to all
things crafty in Portland. She also produces CraftyPod (www.craftypod.com), a blog and podcast all
about Making Stuff. And she teaches a wide variety of craft classes around
town.
Mark Gundry brings a rich background in Jungian psychotherapy, alchemical
psychology, expressive arts therapies, grief counseling, and the study of
spirituality to the workshop. He is in private practice as a therapist for
adults, children, and adolescents in Portland, Oregon, where he works out of his
office within the 100th Monkey Studio. Mark received his psychotherapeutic
training at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, and
completed his Ph.D. at Boston College, where he wrote on the way that
psychologist Carl Jung understood the healing power of symbols in therapy. His
way of working with clients draws mainly from the Jungian tradition, as well as
from self psychology with its emphasis on attuning empathically to the clientʼs
experience in order to facilitate the healing of wounds to the self. He also
offers workshops on psyche and the expressive arts. Mark has been working on his
own dreams, and doing artwork -- painting, charcoal, nature assemblage, collage,
and photography (so far!) -- and writing about his experiences for over ten
years.
Jennifer James has been "making things" since childhood. Finding inspiration in the Paper Arts, she has completed two internships with well-known Paper Artists. She brings gathered knowledge and creativity to assist participants in creating fun and festive holiday cards and decorations!
Christy Lutz has been crocheting for 6 years and has recently begun designing
her own crochet projects and items. In addition to crochet, she is working on
her first quilt as a member of a local quilt club, writes music for and plays in
an electronic band, works for the American Postal Workers Union and Veneer
Magazine, and is learning to speak German. Christy thinks that learning because
you want to (and not because you have to) is one of the best experiences ever,
and she loves that Portland has so many opportunities to do so.
Lee Meredith is the crafter, designer, photographer, artist behind leethal.net
and the "do stuff!" blog and zine. With a degree in photography and media arts,
and a minor in studio arts, she takes her training into the craft world and is
always experimenting with new things to make and ways to make stuff
interesting.
