Serena Appel
"I have led art groups with elders, adults, teens and children since 2003. I have a long history of collaborating with others in order to create and show artwork, music and spoken word, both in Portland and in Chicago, IL, my hometown. I am a practicing fine artist, with a BFA from Columbia College Chicago in 2005, and an MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University in 2007. My areas of study include: Comparative spirituality/mythology, symbolism, women's issues, GLBTQQ issues, multicultural issues; working with MR/DD, brain-injured and chronically mentally ill adults; working with children suffering from multiple disorders, and solution-focused crisis assessment and brief therapy. My philosophy is to assist clients in discovering imagery through art and craft making that will bring them personally meaningful medicine to help heal and transform their lives."

Mark Gundry brings a rich background in Jungian psychotherapy, alchemical psychology, expressive arts therapies, grief counseling, and the study of spirituality to the workshop. He is in private practice as a therapist for adults, children, and adolescents in Portland, Oregon, where he works out of his office within the 100th Monkey Studio. Mark received his psychotherapeutic training at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, and completed his Ph.D. at Boston College, where he wrote on the way that psychologist Carl Jung understood the healing power of symbols in therapy. His way of working with clients draws mainly from the Jungian tradition, as well as from self psychology with its emphasis on attuning empathically to the clientʼs experience in order to facilitate the healing of wounds to the self. He also offers workshops on psyche and the expressive arts. Mark has been working on his own dreams, and doing artwork -- painting, charcoal, nature assemblage, collage, and photography (so far!) -- and writing about his experiences for over ten years.
