On July 9th, 2010 The 100th Monkey Studio will host an art opening for the Maps show. The event will be held from 6pm-9pm and is free and open to the public. During the evening there will be live music by Sean O’G of Otis Heat and refreshments.  This event is for all ages. The show will hang in the studio from 7/9/10 – 8/1/10.

The Maps show explores the different meanings of Maps and how they help guide us, not only through our physical world but our emotional world as well. For the Maps show we have teamed up with Portland’s Bridge festival. The Bridge festival is a celebration of Portland’s bridges through art, music and other events throughout the city. The Festival begins July 23, at the Olympic Mills building from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On Saturday July 24th there will be public art on the East bank Esplanade from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm and then “Hit the Lights,” a light show on the Hawthorne Bridge at 10:00 pm to kick off the festival and celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the Hawthorne Bridge. There will be many other events happening throughout the city, like Brunch on the Bridge, for more information visit their website at www.pdxbridgefestival.org.   Artists include Jessica Breedlove, Julia Gardner, Britta Goldmann, Cathy McGuire, Katy Meacham, Leslie Peterson and Beth Ann Short.   Upcoming events include a Lavender Soap from Scratch class with Joy Leising on July 7th, a Summer Drawing Journal Trade on Wednesdays July 14th and August 11th. Youth Summer Art Camps begin June 28th through August 20th, age specific; topics include Guerilla Art, Fashion Design, Visual Media, Pioneer Art, Pop Art, Japanese Art and Design and Sculpture.

Striving to create connections within our community, the 100th Monkey Studio offers a creative place to visit, view art and/or locate personal resources.  The studio founders believe in providing any artist willing with the tools and knowledge to use them, but also the support and freedom to express individuality and vision.  For more information about the studio, the open studio approach to art therapy, upcoming events, lectures, classes/workshops, support groups and more contact The 100th Monkey Studio at 503-232-3457 or via web at www.the100thmonkeystudio.com .
