Make your choices count. Non-profit partner: Sisters of the Road Cafe Since 1979, Sisters Of The Road has been an essential part of the Old Town/Chinatown neighborhood. Sisters offers a space to build community, empower ourselves, learn from one another, dine with dignity and organize for justice and human rights for all.
Monday through Friday, 10:00-2:45, Sisters’ Cafe serves an average of 225 hot, nourishing meals daily. Customers can pay for meals four ways: $1.50 cash, food stamps, Sisters’ Meal Coupon, or work trade. Fifteen minutes of barter work (for example, serving meals or bussing tables) is enough for a meal and drink; customers can barter longer and save credit or treat friends. Our founding goals remain: to be a safe place for everyone, especially women and children; to offer hot, nourishing meals at little cost or in exchange for labor; and to offer employment experience to local residents.
Our mission statement: Sisters Of The Road exists to build authentic relationships and alleviate the hunger of isolation in an atmosphere of nonviolence and gentle personalism that nurtures the whole individual, while seeking systemic solutions that reach the roots of homelessness and poverty to end them forever.
