COPYRIGHTS FOR ARTISTS AND CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS

This interactive workshop will focus on copyrights, providing practical information on various legal topics related to the protection of artwork and creative service work products. All artists and creative professionals are encouraged to attend: painters, sculptors, photographers, print makers, designers, cartoonists, animators, craftspeople, writers, publishers, and others.
 
This workshop will provide a clear and comprehensive overview of what copyrights are and how to obtain them. Topics will include the most important concepts that every creative person should know, including how to register various types of creative work with the Copyright Office, fair use rights, copyright infringement, and the public domain. We will also discuss the intersection of copyright law with trademark, patent and trade secret law.

What is Art Therapy?

Short will discuss a brief history of Art Therapy, clinical theories, properties of art materials, as well as discuss the importance of having a Master's in Art Therapy when using it in mental health treatment. Basics to Cold Processed Soap Making
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make soap? Here is your chance! Learn how to make soap from scratch using natural oils, lye, essential oils & seasonal herbs!  Each soap maker will learn the basics to cold processed soap through hands on saponification, measuring , and more.  Enjoy the opportunity to explore  sweet seasonal blends of oatmeal, vanilla, mint, chocolate and more in this winter seasonal workshop. After the soap has cured participants will return to the studio to press, stamp, wrap, label, and take home their soaps!

Drawing Co-op for Adults

Looking for a place to practice your drawing skills with guidance and support?  This monthly workshops will provide artists of ALL levels a place to explore materials and also work on technique.  Each month a drawing exercise will be available (i.e. still life or verbal prompt) and also a wide variety of drawing materials including pencil, colored pencil, pastel, charcoal and more.

Manga-Inspired Drawing Co-op
Leader: Beth Ann Short
Do you love the work of Osamu Tezuka or Fujiko F. Fujio.   The term "manga" used outside Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan.  However, manga-influenced comics, among original works, exist in many other parts of the world.  In this drawing co-op artists will gather for to draw, socialize and create new characters.  Basic drawing materials and paper will be available, but if participants have their own drawing kit they are welcome to bring them.

Felted Slippers Workshop

Learn to make wool felted slippers using a plastic resist as the pattern.  Students come away with a completed pair of slippers and the know-ho to make more for any sized foot.

Create Fairy Inspired Dioramas
Leader: Maya Gable
Use your imagination to create a unique, fairy themed diorama. Learn to view twigs, moss, and cast off items such as buttons and beads in a whole new way. Find out what else these items might become. Be prepared to enter the world of fairies! This class is recommended for ages 12 and up. Wear clothes that you won’t mind getting a little messy.

Bottlecap Pointillism with Jackie Sauriol
Bottlecaps are free, colorful and varied, and offer us a chance to see contrast and pattern in new ways. We will be working primarily in 2D, and use a grid system as needed to transfer images.
In just 3 classes you will build up a substrate, (11x17 or larger), 'paint' it using only bottlecaps, then coat and frame your art all with non-toxic materials, (a water-based clearcoat is used).

Evolution II: Media Exploration for artists 18 years & older
Lead by Fine Artist & Art Therapist Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC
Are you looking to increase your knowledge of art material use as well as open up your creative channels?  In this on-going workshop, participants can expect to come and engage in a creative community environment.  Each meeting will have a pre-determined art experience and media choices for the participants.  Art experiences will have a theme or direction for content of piece, to generate motivation and reduce anxiety at starting a new piece of art each class.  Art experiences will last for one class and although we encourage consistent attendance, it is not mandatory to attend every classes if your schedule does not permit it.  Media to be explored in this on-going class may include drawing materials, paint, collage, fiber & much more.  

Formal Class Times: Thursday afternoons once a month from 3-4:30pm

Acrylic Painting 1 – Painting from Life
In this no-pressure workshop series, Amy Buchheit will guide you through the basics of acrylic painting, from selecting your materials and color mixing to creating a completed piece.  We will be working from life, painting simple subjects to support you in learning how to paint with volume and dimension.  You will be able to make arrangements to use the 100th Monkey Studios work space if you would like to practice painting or work on your piece between classes.

Digital Photography for Beginners
Leader: Johanna Robinson
Take an in-depth course on digital photography in only 3 sessions! Learn to use your camera to it's full potential and be in complete control of the way your photographs look. Discover insider tricks and tools of the trade while becoming more confident with your own equipment. Topics we will cover include: using a digital camera with manual settings, exposure, lighting, color balance, in-camera editing and digital manipulation on the computer.  Create a photography portfolio over the course of three weeks and choose your favorite photographs to print on the last day of class.

Parent and Kid Animation Extravaganza!

In this exciting workshop both kids and their parents will get to team up to create an animated movie while learning the tools of stop motion animation.  This isn’t your everyday sitting on your butt computer animation, this is crazy hands on get yourself dirty animation!  We’ll be using a variety of tools and materials to make your collaborative stories come to life!  If you’ve ever wondered what an animation would look like if both yours and your child’s brains melded together, this is the class for you!   Come learn, play and experience the excitement animation can bring when your hand made worlds come to life!

Beginning Woodblock Carving and Printing
Leader: Magena Kelly
Learn woodblock relief printing, as beautifully demonstrated by Albrecht Durer, Pablo Picasso, M.C. Escher and Hokusai!  During this three class course we will focus on carving and printing techniques used in Woodblock Relief Printmaking.   Students will explore a variety of tools and mark making techniques to create original block printed images.  Students will see examples of artworks created in this way, and gain a basic knowledge of woodblock printing throughout history.  We will explore hand and press printing techniques with relief printmaking on a variety of papers.  We will explore the possibilities of different color combinations with different printing techniques and the possibilities of the multiple.  Students will complete the class with small editions of original artwork, and the skills and tools to continue working in this medium at home or in a studio.
