Basics to Cold Processed Soap Making
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make soap?  Here is your chance! Learn how to make soap from scratch using natural oils, lye, essential oils & seasonal herbs!  Each soap maker will learn the basics to cold processed soap through hands on saponification, measuring , and more.  Enjoy the opportunity to explore  sweet seasonal blends of oatmeal, vanilla, mint , chocolate and more in this winter seasonal workshop. After the soap has cured participants will return to the studio to press, stamp, wrap, label, and take home their soaps!

Egg Soap Felting
Come learn how to felt bars of soap & egg shaped soap with a variety of colors of wool roving.  This technique allows for a very exfoliating soap experience, without using a wash cloth.  Natural soap will be provided to felt in this workshop. Each participant will be able to felt 5-8 bars per
person!  A great spring art!

Body Care Open Studio

Eco Hip Candle Making

In this weekend workshop explore the use of soy & beeswax candle making in recycled & vintage containers. Each artist will learn the art of environmentally friendly candle making and be able to individualized each of their creations with  essential oils. This is a great  holiday class to take with a friend or way to make earth friendly gifts! Each candle artist will go away with 3- 4 medium to learn candles

Have you always wanted to learn how to draw, but feel like you can't? Here's a chance to change that. Learning to draw is really about learning to see.  I'll give you specific tools (simple objects that you can find around the house) and techniques to train your eyes, so you can draw exactly what you see.You'll see a difference immediately. Really.  And more importantly, we'll have fun.

Manga-Inspired Drawing Co-op
Leader: Beth Ann Short
Do you love the work of Osamu Tezuka or Fujiko F. Fujio.   The term "manga" used outside Japan refers specifically to comics originally published in Japan.  However, manga-influenced comics, among original works, exist in many other parts of the world.  In this drawing co-op artists will gather for to draw, socialize and create new characters.  Basic drawing materials and paper will be available, but if participants have their own drawing kit they are welcome to bring them.

Felted Slippers Workshop

Learn to make wool felted slippers using a plastic resist as the pattern.  Students come away with a completed pair of slippers and the know-ho to make more for any sized foot.

Create Fairy Inspired Dioramas
Leader: Maya Gable
Use your imagination to create a unique, fairy themed diorama. Learn to view twigs, moss, and cast off items such as buttons and beads in a whole new way. Find out what else these items might become. Be prepared to enter the world of fairies! This class is recommended for ages 12 and up. Wear clothes that you won’t mind getting a little messy.

Reclaimed objects Sculpture
Leader: Jessica Minor

Help celebrate creativity and eco-friendliness by making a sculpture out of objects we would normally discard in this two-part workshop! In this workshop we will learn to use a creative eye when it comes to looking at our waste and recyclables.  Participants are recommended to bring one week’s worth of recyclables to create with, but it is not necessary. This is a great activity to help celebrate Earth Day and it is family friendly!

Vision Boards Workshop
If you visualize it, you can have it.  This is a concept that high-powered professionals and world-class athletes have been using to for decades to achieve results.  In this fun and inspiring class, you will have the opportunity to visualize what you wish to create for the year and learn to put them in a tangible format by using fun, easy and inexpensive supplies.  Though you may choose to bring optional materials, supplies are included in the cost of this class.

Evolution II: Media Exploration for artists 18 years & older
Lead by Fine Artist & Art Therapist Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC
Are you looking to increase your knowledge of art material use as well as open up your creative channels?  In this on-going workshop, participants can expect to come and engage in a creative community environment.  Each meeting will have a pre-determined art experience and media choices for the participants.  Art experiences will have a theme or direction for content of piece, to generate motivation and reduce anxiety at starting a new piece of art each class.  Art experiences will last for one class and although we encourage consistent attendance, it is not mandatory to attend every classes if your schedule does not permit it.  Media to be explored in this on-going class may include drawing materials, paint, collage, fiber & much more.  

Formal Class Times: Thursday afternoons once a month from 3-4:30pm
4/7, 5/5 & 6/2 

Cost:  $20 per class all art materials included

Free for studio members!

Independent studio time is also available to be scheduled for those interested in painting between independently between formal class times.  Studio use is free for members. Public use of the studio varies and must be scheduled in advance.

Hourly rate varies from $5-10 per hour depending on media.  Bring your own canvas or board and keep your costs down!

Canvas Stretching and Oil Painting Basics
Leader: Johanna Robinson
Work literally from start to finish on a medium-scale oil painting! Students will learn how to stretch and prepare their own canvas, plan compositions based on a combination of reference materials and imagination, and use both traditional and experimental techniques when applying oil paint. Color mixing and use of oil painting mediums will be covered in depth. Examples of contemporary painting will be shown throughout the course in order to gain inspiration and demonstrate the breadth of what can be done with this medium. Emphasis will be placed upon using paint to illustrate anything imaginable, rather than simply copying a photograph.

Water Color Exploration Workshop
Leader: Beth Ann Short
In this workshop, participants will explore the basic strokes, salt technique, use of brushes and both palette and tube watercolor paint.  Options will also be available for participants will explore additional water-soluable materials including watercolor sticks & pencils, as well as pen & ink.  
This workshop is for participants 8 and older.

Make your own wrapping paper! An experiment with tessellations 
Ever wanted to draw like M.C. Escher?  Ever thought you could design your own wallpaper, wrapping paper, or greeting card?  M. C. Escher is known for creating fancy, intricate tessellation designs of animals, stairwells and buildings.  In this workshop, you can create your own tessellation designs, rotate them around, reflect them to the other side, and trace them onto your own wrapping paper, book cover, greeting card, or other design paper.  We’ll follow step-by-step instructions, use design practices, exercise our imaginations, and finish by painting our tessellation designs in a repeating color scheme.  Take the finished product with you!
