Integrating the Arts Throughout Your
Curriculum Instructor: Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC This series of workshops
have been designed to help elementary school educators increase confidence and
enthusiasm when integrating the expressive arts throughout their
curriculum. Art can be
incorporated into any area of the educational curriculum and can be a valuable
tool when supporting learning differences in students. These workshops will offer techniques
in using fine art media through experientials that can be applied in classrooms. Each workshop is a weekend day from
9am-4pm with an hour break for lunch.
Participants are encouraged to pack a lunch, however there are many
local restaurants in walking distance. III. Imagination,
Creativity and Technology Fine art experiential: Mixed media Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 9am-4pm Creativity is
innate in all human beings. To
create something suggests that something is created consciously and
voluntarily. In this workshop
participants will explore how culture and resources may play into the
creativity of all humankind. The
importance of process vs. product also will be investigated. Participants will also learn
applications to mixed media work, including collage, found objects, drawing
materials, paint and more. Workshops are $100 per session
individually or $700 for the entire series. **All art materials are included in the

Cold Processed Beer Soap Workshop Leader: Joy Leising Celebrate St. Patricks Day in this Saturday afternoon beer soap workshop. Learn the art of making cold processed soap with beer! Each soap maker will learn the basics to soap through hands on saponification, measuring, and more. Enjoy the opportunity to explore using beer and natural herbs & essential oils in creating a very home brewed batch of soap. After the soap has cured participants will return to the studio to press, stamp, wrap, label, and take home their soaps! Feel free to bring your favorite beer to sip on while having fun making soap! Dip Dye Day! Leader: Gina Kirkorian-Inghm Make your own hand dyed original two toned fabrics at the 100th Monkey Studio. This class will go over the basics of dip dying, which is a process of dipping the same piece of fabric into color, to create a two tone feathery look. The results are stunning, and you can use this technique to decorate just about anything! We will start with the basics. Dipping cotton socks into two colors to get our technique down. Then we will move onto silk strips, that we can make scarves out of, once they're dry. Scratch Animation Class Leader: Bryson Hansen Adult Class (16 & Older welcome) Scratch animation, also known as direct animation, is a technique in which footage is produced by physically manipulating a filmstrip for projection, rather than creating a film by photographing frame by frame with a camera. This means painting, scratching, burning, or any other form of physical manipulation, directly on to the celluloid. This class is a look into direct animation history, as well as an actual direct film workshop. Students will be given a look into direct film’s roots and development, as well as creating their very own scratch films to take home. Stick Sculpture Class Leader: Gina Kirkorian-Ingham People have been making sculptures out of wood since the beginning of time. Learn a new technique, by using wood in it's most natural state for the structure of your piece. Learn the art of weaving, in the 3-D. This is free form, fine art weaving, out of natural materials! Make gorgeous sculptures with sticks as the base of the frame. Learn how to weave on a 2-D level first. Then take that into the 3-D by attaching the "panels" together. You do not need to know basketry to take this course. Just come on over to the 100th Monkey Studio, and have fun! Exploring Transitions Leader: Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC Art
therapy is for anyone. In this on-going insight-oriented workshop,
participants will explore fine art media with the support of the leader,
while using gentle prompts, thematic suggestions or quotes to inspire
the art process. These meetings are designed for individuals looking
for a place to explore their own creativity while also engaging in a
supportive community atmosphere. Expect warm-up art projects,
discussion and reflection on art pieces and process. Art pieces will
be completed within each meeting. Media to be utilized may include but
is not limited to all drawing materials, collage, paint and found

studio setting, participants
are welcome to come with a project already started or begin fresh. No
previous art experience needed. Technical media support will be
available. Media available for use
includes collage, paint, found objects, drawing materials and much more!

Veil Painting Leader: Richard Armstrong Veil
painting is a method of healing and transformation as one works from
relationship with specific chosen colors, usually two to three for the
most part and then, if wanted, nearing finishing, a few high-lights of
other colors. So, as you work without a preconceived notions, the
colors and their relationships to one another and you are allowed to
work on your being, emotionally, mentally or spiritually and even
physically. You will learn how to tape paper down, prepare the paper
for its first veil, learn how to make hard and soft lines (spirit and
soul lines), and how to use black (or ultra-marine) as extra punch.
Students will use Arches hot press 140 # which costs about $5 per
sheet. It is also suggested to bring two filbert brushes. One at 3/4
of an inch and one at 1 1/2 inches. They are a bit expensive but will
last you a life time and allow you to be more successful in the
execution of large veils. A chip brush will do in a pinch but is not
