Spring Cold Processed Soap Workshop

Celebrate Spring in this evening workshop. Learn the art of making cold processed soap with herbs & essential oils! Each soap maker will learn the basics to soap through hands on saponification, measuring, and more.  Enjoy the opportunity to explore using spring scents and natural herbs & essential oils in creating a very sweet batch of soap.  After the soap has cured participants will return to the studio to press, stamp, wrap, label, and take home their soaps!

Felted Soap Eggs Class

Celebrate Spring in this Felted Soap Egg Workshop! Artists will learn the basics to wet felting while creating felted soaps in the form of eggs.Participants will have the opportunity to select beautiful colors of wool roving that they will felt to individual handmade egg shaped soaps! A really fun and easy workshop for everyone interested in learning about felting. Each felter will take 3-5 bars home at the end of class.

Skull Sessions: Open Office Business Workshop

Start the new tax year off right with these basic bookkeeping and business management workshops. Learn how to set up basic business systems, prepare your books, write sales receipts, keep track of cost of goods sold, inventory, accounts payables and invoicing techniques. Meet with various business professionals throughout the month. Learn to balance your ledger and manage your cash flows as your business grows. Bring your business documents along when you attend these business workshops bi-monthly to complete your books with a professional bookkeeper in attendance to answer questions and help you maintain healthy business records. Use Quickbooks online, google docs or Excel; MUST HAVE OWN LAPTOP OR NETBOOK COMPUTER. Skull Sessions can be scheduled after a 30 minute private consultation.

What is Art Therapy?

Are you interested in the field of art therapy, but don't know what it's all about? This interactive talk will answer any questions you might have. Short will discuss a brief history of Art Therapy, clinical theories, properties of art materials, as well as discuss the importance of having a Master's in Art Therapy when using it in mental health treatment. She will also cover the education process, credentials available, ethical use and job hunting.

Integrating the Arts Throughout Your Curriculum
Instructor: Beth Ann Short MA, ATR-BC
This series of workshops have been designed to help elementary school educators increase confidence and enthusiasm when integrating the expressive arts throughout their curriculum.  Art can be incorporated into any area of the educational curriculum and can be a valuable tool when supporting learning differences in students.  These workshops will offer techniques in using fine art media through experientials that can be applied in classrooms.  Each workshop is a weekend day from 9am-4pm with an hour break for lunch.  Participants are encouraged to pack a lunch, however there are many local restaurants in walking distance.
Cost: Workshops are $100 per session individually or $700 for the entire series.
**All art materials are included in the cost.
IV. Supporting Learning Differences Using the Expressive Arts
     Fine art experiential: Water soluble media
     Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 9am-4pm

Unique individuals have their own learning styles.  In this workshop participants will explore the goals of equitable education and experience methods to incorporate the expressive arts to support any student.  Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the wide range of learning styles.  Participants will also learn the range of water soluble media, including traditional tube watercolor, palette watercolor, watercolor pencils, watercolor sticks, watercolor markers and salt technique.


Independent Drawing Open Studio
Artists will work independently and will find a wide variety of paper and drawing materials at their finger tips.  Drawing media available includes charcoal, pastels, pencils, crayon, markers, colored pencils, pen & ink.
This project is for ages 2 & older!
No prior instruction from our studio necessary.
$5 per hour

Private Drawing Lessons

Drawing Open Studio for Adults

Looking for a place to practice your drawing skills with guidance and nurturing support?  These monthly workshops will provide artists of ALL levels a place to explore materials and also work on technique.  Each month a drawing exercise will be offered(i.e. still life or verbal prompt) and also a wide variety of drawing materials including pencil, colored pencil, pastel and charcoal.
Participants are welcome to bring in pieces that are in process too.
Come for 1, 2 or all 3 hours!

SEW A YO-YO CRITTER
Leader: Amanda Myers
Yo-Yos are fabric circles that are hand stitched and drawn up into a puff. Stuff them, stack them flat, string them on a cord. create some character with facial features and hair using buttons, yarn and scraps. This is a fun and easy class for smaller kids, with or without parents.
Each participant will take home a cute new stuffie and some important hand sewing skills to last a lifetime.

Painted Portrait Pillows
Leader: Amanda Myers 
Artists will create a painted “pillow doll” in the folky primitive style of 19th century portraits. We will cut, hand or machine sew, and stuff our base  out of linen and then paint with acrylics using some of Amanda’s techniques in fabric painting, color choices and illustration. Have fun looking at old photos for inspiration and character development, or bring a photo of your pet!
Artist will take home 1 [approx 12 “] portrait pillow.

Earth Day Prayer Flags

In this awesome workshop, you will learn how to make your very own Earth Day flags. Have you ever seen Tibetan prayer flags, fluttering in the wind? They're beautiful and each flag stands for for something important to the person who hangs them (or makes them in this case). Create your own message, while being inspired by Earth Day, and make your own strand of flags! We will hand paint fabric flags, use applique techniques, use fabric markers, and even embroidery, to create our own Earth Day Prayer Flags.  Hang them outside your house, or in your room, to celebrate Earth Day everyday!

Mixed Media Open Studio

Looking for a place to explore your creativity using mixed media?  In this open studio setting, participants are welcome to come with a project already started or begin fresh.  No previous art experience needed.  Technical media support will be available.  Media available for use includes collage, paint, found objects, drawing materials and much more!

Mosaic Masterpiece Workshop

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of mosaics? In this 3 part Platter and Bowl workshop artists will have the opportunity to do just that! Learn the art of design , grouting and finishing a mosaic masterpiece. By the final class each participant will take home their finished personally designed bowl or platter.  This is a great class to give as a gift for Mothers Day or sign up with a friend!

Exploring Transitions

Art therapy is for anyone.  In this on-going insight-oriented workshop, participants will explore fine art media with the support of the leader, while using gentle prompts, thematic suggestions or quotes to inspire the art process.  These meetings are designed for individuals looking for a place to explore their own creativity while also engaging in a supportive community atmosphere.  Expect warm-up art projects, discussion and reflection on art pieces and process.
Art pieces will be completed within each meeting.  Media to be utilized may include but is not limited to all drawing materials, collage, paint and found objects.
Adults only.
Cost: $20 per group + $5 materials fee

Recycle Reuse - The Art of Paper Making

In this fun and crafty evening workshop artists of all ages will have fun making paper! We will explore the history of paper making using recycled materials , pressed flowers, and linter in our paper process. Each artist will go home with the skills to make their own paper and 3-5 personally designed sheets.

Rolled Magazine Art!

This different way to use your collection of magazines is a perfect way to do some Spring Cleaning, while making some sweet art all in one! Learn how to make a rolled magazine bowl, and a rolled magazine frame. Projects end up with a Modern look, with bright colorful stripes.  Also simply a great way to not waste all those beautiful colors and paper from your antique magazine collection.  By the way, if you don't collect mag's we've got plenty!

Recycled Words: A Multi-Media Zine Workshop

In honor of our partnership with month with Wordstock we are excited to announce a fabulous ZINE workshop that is for anyone!  Enjoy an afternoon writing and creating!  This workshop is for families looking to spend the afternoon together being creative! Participants will engage in writing poetry and art making in their experience.  Zines will be produced from the final pieces created and available for pick up after printing. Ages7 and older welcome! Families encouraged!
