 Press Release: On Saturday, December 18, 2010 from 6-10pm the 100th Monkey Studio will host it's annual Winter Holiday Celebration and this year Benefit Party in support of the studio's Artist Scholarship Fund.  The event is free and open to all ages.

This event will celebrate 100th Monkey Studio as it propels into it's fifth year open with live music  by local band
Air Show and a "live draw" auction.  Benefit attendees will have the opportunity to suggest themes of social change for the artists to create a piece about.  Artists will have 30 minutes to create the piece and completed pieces will be silent auctioned at the end of the evening.  Gifts and proceeds in kind will go to the studio's Artist Scholarship Fund.

The 100th Monkey Studio believes that self-expression is vital in our daily lives. It is the studio's goal to offer services to anyone regardless of age, gender, race, class, and background the opportunity to explore their creative potential through art. Art is a powerful tool that may be utilized in a variety of ways to create positive change in anyone’s life.  The Art Scholarship Fund was created to support the studio's mission and community in allowing people that are passionate about art and creativity, but may not have the funds to access the studio on their own, a way to do so.  The founders of the studio decided that it was important for the mission of the business to give back to those who can't afford to do art.  The 100th Monkey Studio also contributes 5% of every gallery sale to support this program.  Over the past four years the fund has also been given gifts by individuals and groups at studio events (The Art Materials Swap, First Fridays & more).  In 2010 alone this fund distributed more then $2500 in services from the studio.   It provided two individuals, one family and three non-profit groups access to art therapy services.  In addition three youth were able to attend the studio's fine art summer camps, two adults were provided full year memberships and one adult was able to attend multiple classes they would not have been able to afford.  This year the studio hope to exceed this amount with a goal of reaching $3000 in gifts to the fund from now until the end of the winter holidays. If an individual wishes to gift to the fund, but can not attend the benefit party gifts can be received during business hours at the studio.

The 100th Monkey Studio is a socially conscious small business owned and operated by two women.  Their mission is to provide anyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation, a safe and affordable place to use art materials.  They also promise to support each artist in their unique journey of using art as a means of individual self expression.  The 100th Monkey Studio provides the community with art resources while also being a creative place to visit and view art.  For more information on upcoming events, lectures, classes/workshops, support groups and more contact the 100th Monkey Studio at 503-232-3457 or via web at www.the100thmonkeystudio.com.

The 100th Monkey Studio is a strong supporter of community.  When able, the studio partners with non-profits for monthly shows to give the non- profits a platform to educate the community about what they do.
Past partners have included but are not limited to:
* My Story Workshops
* Dove Lewis
* Children's Relief Nursery
* Quest Center
* SMYRC
* Green Empowerment
* Zimbabwe Artist Project
* Africa AIDS Response
*Dougy Center

Since opening in 2006, the studio has provided artists with suggested art themes to inspire artists in their story telling through their art.  The studio has also consistently shown only group shows in the gallery and throughout the open studio spaces in the studio.  It is our hope that through group shows the community is exposed to a global view of each artists inspiration and life experience.
