Donna is originally from the
Midwest, growing up in Iowa and Nebraska. She moved out to the Pacific Northwest to
pursue her Masters in Art Therapy from Marylhurst College
in 1997. Her work in the mental health/
social services field began; however, in 1995, during her undergraduate
practicum at a Boys Town shelter in Grand
Island, Nebraska,
where she worked with runaway and delinquent youth.
Since
moving to the Portland
area, Donna has worked in various mental health settings with young children,
youth, and families. She has specialized
in behavior and emotional problems, including dual- diagnosis, abuse/ neglect,
anxiety problems, PTSD, ADHD, and oppositional defiance, in residential,
school- based, day treatment, and outpatient facilities. Recently, she has worked in a relief nursery
specializing in early childhood with clients ranging from 0-5- years-old.
Donna has
significant experience conducting individual and family therapy with clients
ages 3- adulthood, as well as leading groups with children and
adolescents. Her clinical work utilizes
art therapy, play therapy, cognitive- behavioral, and solution- focused techniques. Donna uses a collaborative, eclectic
approach, that is respectful and strength- based, working with clients,
allowing their needs to drive the therapy and treatment modality. She believes that much of the therapeutic
process and success is based on the client/ therapist relationship. Therefore, developing and nurturing this
relationship, so that it is a safe, trusting, and professional, so the client
can feel heard and open to explore their feelings is her primary goal and
focus.
Special Skills and
Training: Trained in Art Therapy, Sand Tray/ Play therapy, Infant
Mental Health, Brain Development, Early Childhood, and Attachment. Significant work with behavior problems and
abuse issues.

Practice: Children (2-12), parent-child, teen, family, adult, individual & group.
