Open StudioThe
studio will be open for members and drop-in artists throughout the
day. Hours of open studio end one half hour prior to closing time.
Members can store their works-in-progress. All materials in the main
workshop are available to both members and drop-in artists at no
additional charge. Additional materials are also for sale in the
materials room. Fees are based on drop-in ($8 per hour/open access to materials in workshop) or monthly
membership. Stop in for more details on becoming a member.

Paraffin Candles AS SEEN ON AM NORTHWEST

This is a great workshop for the start of Spring
and gift giving ideas!
Session I: Ages 10 and older welcome
March 30th, 1-3pm
In this class you
will learn how to make paraffin candles in containers.
You will also be able to personalize each candle with your favorite scents and
colors.
Members: $30 Non-Members: $40
Session II: Adult Class Ages 18 & Up April 5th 11:30 - 1:30 pm
This class will
cover paraffin candle making in molds and containers. Participants will be able to individually scent and color their candles. Participants will learn DIY candle making skills to take home with them. Members: $50 Non- Members: $60 *
Materials will be provided for both of these classes, however if you have empty candle holders at home
you would like to use please bring them in clean and ready for wax and you can
make a few extra!
Ice Candle Making Come learn how to make Ice Candles using paraffin wax and
ice! You will be able to form your candles with different molds
as well as change the colors and scents.

Tree Life Cycle Leader: Beth Ann Short MA ATR Trees are vital to our planet’s natural landscape. They prevent erosion and provide ecosystems
and under foliage to other living creatures.
In this one day workshop you will examine characteristics of trees and
apply them to your own life experience. Using metaphor participants will create an art piece reflective of their
own eco-system. Participants may use
array of materials including all charcoal, pencil, oil crayons, pen & ink,
markers and much more. Collage materials
(paper, fabric & yarn) will also be available. All materials provided. Saturday, March 29th from 1-4pm Members: $40 Non-members: $45 Limited to 6 participants aged 18 and older. Crayon Encaustics Leader: Beth Ann Short Create your own encaustic masterpiece! What a great use of old broken crayons that no one wants to use! Not to
mention a very approachable class using the encaustic methods for
artists ages 6-106. Encaustic painting is a specific type of painting utilizing hot
wax, often beeswax. Pigments are added and then the wax is applied to a
surface. Metal tools and special brushes can be used before the wax
cools,or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate the wax that has
cooled. Encaustics can also be sculpted and/or utilized in collage, as well as painted.
Come in and learn about this method dating as far back to ancient Egypt.

Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 1-3pm Members: $20 Non-Members: $25 Limited to 6 spaces. The Journey of the Labyrinth Leader: Beth Ann Short MA ATR Did you ever have a difficult time making a choice? Considering outcome can be difficult and easier to do once we have already moved and possibly made a mistake. Participants in this drawing class will explore their own decision making through a journey of the Labyrinth. Participants will explore 10 areas that will help them make better decisions in the present and future, while reflecting on the past for insight. Participants may use
array of materials including all charcoal, pencil, oil crayons, pen & ink,
markers and much more. Collage materials
(paper, fabric & yarn) will also be available. All materials provided.
Sunday April 20th from 1-4pm Members: $40 Non-members: $45 Limited to 6 participants aged 18 and older. Crafting Our Voices Leader: Art Therapist Serena Appel, MA If you’re a woman who has ever wished you could
make art or craft, but told yourself you “weren’t creative enough”; if you’re a
working artist/writer/professional/etc. who keeps getting “stuck” in
self-defeating patterns; or even if you just want to hang out with some crafty
gals and have fun, this class may be for you. Over 6 weeks, we will learn to
separate reality from commonly held myths about who creative people are and how
they think, learn new strategies to stimulate idea generation and discover our
own unique “voices”, and learn ways to apply these skills towards art making as
well throughout our daily lives. No prior experience in art necessary, basic
art/craft materials provided. Saturdays 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/24, 5/31 & 6/7from 10:30am-12:30pm Members: $10.00 per session Non-members: $15.00 per session Punch cards applicable.Watercolor & More! Leader: Cheri Epstein ATR-BC, NCC In this afternoon workshop, participants will play and experiment with watercolor! Have you always thought that water color painting was intimidating and too difficult for you? This class will help you overcome your fears by offering exciting ways to challenge that belief. We will play with making quick watercolor paintings, then reconstruct them in new formats that add excitement and surprise. Some methods will include collage, mosaic and weaving. No experience necessary, just a desire to have fun with watercolors.

Epstein is an Art Therapist practicing in SW Portland. For 15 years, she has helped clients of all ages and with a wide range of emotional needs through the use of art therapy. Prior to that, Epstein was an artisan for 18 years, designing and creating colorful enameled jewelry combined with precious metals and gemstones. Her work was displayed in juried eshibitions and galleries throughout the US and Japan. She has taught art through The Artist-in the Schools Program and creativity in The Artist's Way Classes. She enjoys helping people reach their creative potential.Fabric & Fiber ArtsNinja Stitching unothadox handsewing methods for the
beginnerLeader: Michelle Freedman This workshop will introduce participants to basic handsewing
methods such as how to thead a needle, how to tie a knot, how to sew a button,
embroidery stitches and applique techniques. Each week a different technique will be explored. No previous skills required,
just a fearless ambition to make things with needle and thread.ah,

sewing since she was five years old and has continued to persue her craft to the
point of having numb fingertips from poking them with needles so many times. She
holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design in NY and worked for
15 years as an apparel designer for companies such as Ralph Lauren and Nike, and
had built costumes for theater and dance in NY and Portland. Freedman has two
books published and is working on her third, Craft Fiction! The booklover's
guide to DIY projects from the classics.
Ladies Night Leaders: Beth Ann Short & Joy Leising This
workshop is intended to be a place for women (21 & older) to come
and be creative in a social atmosphere. The group is one time per
month with a community potluck & art project. Each woman should
bring food to share and additional snacks & beverages will be
provided, as well as art materials.
April 18th from 6:30-8pm Clothing Swap and Redesign Bring in some clothes you've worn to trade...pick up something new! Visit the workshop and add embellishments or stencil with paint.

LecturesMusic Law Leader: Peter Vaughan Shaver, Esq. This two-hour interactive workshop will provide musicians with practical information on various legal topics related to the music business, with a focus on copyrights and contracts. Anyone involved with, or interested in, the music business should attend: solo performers, bands, manager, producers, promoters, and record labels. Copyright topics will include the most important concepts that every musician should know, sound recording versus song compositions copyrights, registering your music with the Copyright Office, and how to make money from your music. The discussion of music business contract will focus on recording and publishing agreement basics, licensing, management and distribution deals, band and side musician agreements, production deals, and more.

Instamatic Camera & Mixed Media Self-Portraits Leader: Beth Ann Short No digital in this workshop. In this two day workshop, participants will photograph themselves and manipulate the images while they emerge. Later photos will be utilized in mixed media pieces. Participants may use

Create your own Mosaic Platter Leader: Joy Leising Spring is a great time to learn the
art of Mosaics. These beginning Mosaic
Classes will teach you the basics to using tiles and recycled materials to
create a beautiful and usable piece of art. We will cover the basics of laying
out your design, gluing, grouting and sealing. You will walk away from this class
with the basic knowledge of mosaic art and a beautiful piece. For Participants 16 and older. Class 1: April 12th

Creating Roots Leader: Beth Ann Short Take a moment to reflect on where you live. Is it a comfortable sanctuary? In this afternoon workshop participants will create a piece of art using mixed media with the theme of nests. The action of creating a nest is unique to every creature. For some, the home is a place to take refuge while for others the home is a place to spend time socializing with family and friends. Part of an instinct to nest comes from a desire to create a place to counteract stress in your life. What will your nest look like? A wide variety of materials will be on hand for the process. Limited to 6 participants.

Contracted GroupsThe studio will offer Art as a recreational activity to non-profit associations. Groups must contract ahead of time with the
studio for the space with a set price and time frame (specifically the number
of weeks they will be attending). The space is available for a one time session or a series. Staff are also available to organize and lead a group specific to
